Chinese Herbal Medicine
CHINESE HERBS
Developed thousands of years ago, Chinese Herbal Medicine is a truly balanced approach to treating any disease because it provides support to the individual’s constitution while relieving symptoms.
Traditional people world-wide use herbs for health and to remedy illness. Chinese herbal medicine developed from tribal roots as part of ancient Chinese culture. By the first century AD, a listing of medicinal herbs and herbal formulations and their uses had been developed in China. The classic text on medicinal Chinese herbs was written during the Ming Dynasty (1152-1578) by Li Shi-Zhen, one of the greatest Chinese doctors, scientists, herbalists and acupuncturists in history. It listed nearly 2,000 herbs and extracts and the uses for them.
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE IS A COMPLEMENTARY RESOURCE FOR ACUPUNCTURISTS
One of the greatest resources of the practicing acupuncturist is their understanding of Chinese Herbal Therapy. Western pharmaceutical-based medicine uses a single substance to treat symptoms. But Chinese Herbal Medicine uses a blend of herbs in very personalized formulas to address the underlying condition of a symptom.
All practitioners at East Bridge Acupuncture have passed the board exams for Chinese Herbal Medicine, and we have the foundational knowledge and experience to confidently prescribe herbs for our patients. We may choose one of our favorite modifications of the Evergreen formulas to match the needs of our patient or we may call in a custom formula when appropriate.
Acupuncture works on the energetic level of a person, while Herbs work on the material aspect of a person. Combining both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine helps patients to achieve lasting positive benefits.
