ACUPUNCTURE FAQ

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of small needles into specific points around the body.  By stimulating acupuncture points with needles, it opens pathways for Qi (energy) to flow freely.  When QI is blocked, it creates an imbalance which is when symptoms or pain show up.   After an assessment by a Chinese Medicine practitioner, needles will then be inserted into points along the affected meridians to address imbalances and allow the body to heal.

Will Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely small and most people report that they can hardly feel them.  At most, an achy sensation may last a minute or two before dissipating.  Once all of the needles are in, people typically go into a deep relaxation or sleep.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

When acupuncture is administered by a Licensed Acupuncturist with a Master’s or Doctoral level of training, you can be comfortable in their hands.  Acupuncture is an extremely safe and non-invasive treatment.  The needles are sterilized and disposed of after each use.

What should I do or not do before and after acupuncture?

It is best to avoid large amounts of caffeine prior to acupuncture. We also recommend not coming on an empty stomach, so you can stay grounded.  If possible, come in loose comfortable clothing, but this is not necessary. Finally avoid rigorous exercise and workouts after your session and make sure to stay hydrated.

What can I expect from my Acupuncture treatment?

Most people feel relaxed and rejuvenated after their Acupuncture session.  During your time on the Bio Mat with the needles, you may go into a deep meditative state or even take a nap.  Acute pain conditions and general muscle tension often resolves very quickly and you may leave feeling like you’re in an entirely different body.  Sometimes it takes a day or two to feel a full effect.  If you are dealing with chronic conditions, several sessions are needed to get positive and lasting results.  However, you don’t need to have to be sick to benefit from acupuncture, because it is a great way to be proactive about your overall health.  By receiving treatments regularly, you will be calming your nervous system and therefore allowing the healing power from within to occur.
